SPLIT MOUNTAIN |
Cub Creek is a short walk to some cool petroglyphs in Dinosaur National Monument. The petroglyphs are located near the Green River, just a little east of the Dinosaur Quarry Visitors Center. The drive out to Cub Creek includes some nice views of the Green River. It is also worth taking the short detour to Split Mountain if you're in the area. At Split Mountain I found a trail leading up the Green River which a tried out, and ended up seeing a large group of big horn sheep across the river. A couple of them were actually ramming their heads together in a battle. It doesn't take long to see everything as no long hikes are required. When visited in November of 2013, I nearly had the entire place to myself, making it a very peaceful visit.
