TRAIL TO WILLOW HEIGHTS

WILLOW HEIGHTS LAKE

Willow Heights is a very beautiful area located near the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon. The trailhead is between the Silver Fork Lodge and Solitude Ski Resort on the north side of the road. It is about one mile from the trailhead to the lake. This is a fairly steep one-mile climb through the middle of an aspen forest. Willow Heights Lake has a large beaver dam located at its outlet, as well as a beaver home located in the lake. Sometimes you can see the beavers swimming around the lake. If you are there in the spring or early summer, you can hike another mile past Willow Heights Lake to Dry Lake. This is a very pretty, fairly large lake that completely dries up by late summer. If you are there at the right time, it is definitely worth the effort to see. I've been up there a few times as a kid. However, I haven't been back since the digital camera revolution, and so don't have any pictures to share.
